ABADAK • n., Mi’kmaw for a place near an island.

Home

ABADAK is a Mi’kmaw word, which means place near an island. For artists Ivan J. White and W. Evan Butler, this can have a number of associations. They are from Flat Bay and Stephenville Crossing respectively, both of which are near Flat Island, a region more commonly referred to by the name of the former European settlement there, Sandy Point. This region, historically the home of many L’nu’k (Mi’kmaq) and Europeans, is rich in stories that often are not told outside of Nujio’qonik (Where the Sand Blows), aka Bay St. George.

Ivan & Evan seek to change this through their collaborations, seeking stories to share through a variety of media, including film, animation, music and more.
